It is people that name stuff, right? When I was younger I used to wonder whom God told all the new names.
I think when people are naming things it can only go three ways. First there’s the elitist ones who go for something complicated. The more impossible it is to pronounce it, the better.
This category of the big brains includes the “eccentrics”. After all, I think there’s always a thin line between the brainy and the clinically insane.
This group too will come up with words that are impossible. They are an impressionable sort. The way I see it, these are the two groups of people that make the big words.
And in this same spirit, they are the same people that create the easiest words. There’s no in between for them. Just when you expected another crazy word, they surprise you. That is what it is about.
I think it’s the same thing that goes on in their minds when they’re naming their children. It will always be something obnoxious or something startlingly plain.
The third category is of the mild and ordinary words. These I think are also a reflection of their makers. The people who don’t really care much either way.
None of this however is my point. It is yet to be seen if I even have a point.
I think physicists, scientists and the like are the most elitist. I know how disjointed all of this is, bear with me. There’s so much that goes on in my mind while I prepare for my exams.
None of which actually has anything to do with my exams.
I wonder what possessed the inventor to call this radio receiver a heterodyne. That’s the object of my study today. Not the inventor or his reasons, the receiver itself.
And now I’m thinking he must have really had an inner child, the inventor. This is something I think many people claim to possess just to prove that they are in touch with themselves. I believe very few do. For this guy though it was real.
Because he did not just end there, he called it the supersonic heterodyne. What screams inner child louder than “supersonic”. I don’t care what the words mean, that is not a grown people word.
Of course I’m not going to look up any of this now. It will ruin my impression. Also how else am I to remember everything I have read.
I might have lied, this is not so much about a radio receiver in case you came seeking knowledge.
This is what’s going on inside my head while I’m supposed to be reading about a radio receiver.
It’s fascinating sometimes all the places the mind will go to rather than study. I mean, no better time to meditate upon your spirituality than when you need to study.
I don’t know how my mind got there but church hymns from my childhood are resounding in my head.
So is this about a radio receiver? No, this is an exorcism. Hopefully if I purge the words from my mind then I can get to that receiver.
So yeah, maybe it is about a radio receiver.
